SALT LAKE CITY — The glass-enclosed Mausoleum of the Risen Savior in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery was the soothing setting for an All Souls Day Mass Nov. 2. Many of the Mass participants had lost loved ones over the past year, and the annual Mass commemorating the souls of all the faithful departed was one of quiet comfort.

Diocesan Administrator Msgr. J. Terrence Fitzgerald spoke of the memories invoked by Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery; the 44 priests and bishops buried there and the more than 100 women religious and seven or eight deacon, as well as "so many people from parishes throughout the diocese I have buried here.

"Mount Calvary gives us a great awareness of the finality of life and the witness of these people," he said. "Remember, those who have gone before us were the pioneers of our faith. They were people who made great sacrifices and had hidden gifts they shared."

Msgr. Fitzgerald encouraged those present to live each day for God. "It's all we have. We should live each day faithfully and remember that some day, we, too, will have no more time. But, we have the communion of saints. Saints can influence us and intercede for us.

"Look to the future with the words of hope brought to us by the resurrection," he said. "We are all called to share in the resurrection and God's never-ending glory."
