SANDY — Michael Joseph Frear, 52, died Dec. 28, at his home following a six-month battle with cancer. Frear attended St. Paul Grade School and graduated from Austin High School in Grosse Pointe, Mich., in 1973. He graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering and a Master’s Degree in environmental science. He was employed at LDS Hospital for 17 years. He loved the outdoors, and began skiing at age 7 in Michigan. He taught skiing at Park City resorts. He was a passionate bicyclist, back-country skier, golfer, and sailor. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne; step-daughters, Shannon and Sara Hatch; parents, Bob and Joan (Thibodeau) Frear, Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.; siblings, Robert, Jr, (Karen), Shanghai, China, David (Leslie), Wilton, Conn., Joan (John) Capuano, Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich., and Julie (Stephen) Schappe, Camp Hill, Pa.; sister-in-law, Diane, High Point, N.C.; and 40 nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass was celebrated at St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
