WASHINGTON — Earlier this year, the United States Supreme Court agreed to take up Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. The case addresses the constitutionality of a 15-week abortion ban passed into law in Mississippi, and it has the potential to overturn Roe v. Wade. Oral arguments will be held Dec. 1, and a decision is expected in June 2022.
After the Supreme Court agreed to take up the case, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities and Christians from other organizations “discovered that we had separately been convicted of the urgent need for unified prayer and fasting for a positive outcome to this case and for the end to abortion,” states a memorandum from the USCCB secretariat.
“Thus, the Pray for Dobbs ecumenical prayer campaign emerged,” the memo continues. “National faith leaders from varying Christian denominations ... are calling people of faith nationwide and across denominations to unite in prayer and fasting.”
A virtual national prayer event is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 18 at 8 p.m. (EST). To participate, visit https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_A_nrSvCbQF2U2J8Aabw0Jg.
