Nellie Jo Vigil Garcia

July 5, 1986 ~ July 22, 2021

Our sweet baby girl Nellie Jo Vigil Garcia passed away peacefully on July 22 with her parents by her side, into the loving arms of her Savior Jesus Christ. She was welcomed into Heaven by her grandpa, Jose Benjamin Vigil and grandparents, Mike and Bertha Garcia. Nellie was the last person Grandpa Benny spoke to before he passed away and we are sure his voice was the first voice she heard as she entered the gates of Heaven. “Hi, mijita.”

Nellie Jo was born on July 5, 1986, and was named after her great-grandparents, Nellie and Joe Raso.  Although her time on earth was short, Nellie had many accomplishments, her greatest being the birth of her son David. David was her life, her love, light, pride and joy and she was the best Mommy to him. Nellie was a youth ambassador for Taylorsville City and traveled to New York City and Washington D.C. as a representative to the National Youth Leadership Conference. She attended Girls State in Cedar City and was an altar girl at St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church.

Nellie is survived by her son, David Espinoza; her parents, Mike and Benita Garcia; brothers Michael (Carly Jo) Garcia and Anthony Garcia; her nephew Noah; her niece Isla Josephine, who arrived a few days after her passing. Also, her Grandmother Josie Raso Vigil, many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, who all loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her Grandpa Benny, grandparents Mike and Bertha Garcia, and aunts Valeen and Connie Garcia. Also Step-Grandfather Vern Barton, with whom she had a very special bond.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on August 3 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Committal, Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Nellie was a beautiful, strong-willed, and kind person. She had the biggest heart and wanted to help everyone before herself.  Her sadness and self-doubt were always there. We ask that if you have a loved one who is struggling with mental health, please do not judge. Let them know you are here for them, love them and do all you can to get them the help they need, Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services 800-273-8255.

Rest in peace “my precious pet.”
