DUCHESNE — Jose Nelson "Nels" Herrera, 83, of Duchesne passed away Oct. 19, 2011.

Herrera was born March 18, 1928 in Coyote, N.M. to Apolinaria "Pouline" and Jose Lorenzo "Joe" Herrera. He married La Rae Hill on Jan. 14, 1957 in Evanston, Wyo.

Herrera is survived by his children: Becky (Mike) Fay; Ray Herrera; Cindy King and Mark Reese; Brenda (James) Caton; Dian (George); Susan (George) Burke; Donna (Mike) Holdaway; and Jeanie Montague; 22 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters Rosanaldo (Olivia) Herrera, Carmelita Herrera, Patricino Herrera, Binnio Herrera and Vitalio (Debbie) Herrera.

Herrera was preceded in death by wife LaRae Herrera, parents Jose and Pouline Herrera, sister Patricinia Herrera, sister-in-law Debbie Herrera, niece Rose Herrera, and great-nephew Thomas Anthony Herrera.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Helen Catholic Church.
