Familiar faces will be seen in different places this year as long-time Utah Catholic schools teachers move into administrative positions throughout the diocese.
BLESSED SACRAMENT: Matt DeVoll, who has been at Blessed Sacrament for seven years as a counselor and then as the vice principal, was named principal to replace Judy Jullian, who retired at the end of the 2009-2010 school year. "He has a lot of enthusiasm and high goals for the school, and a great commitment to the schools and the parents," said Sister Catherine Kamphaus, director of Utah Catholic Schools.
SAINT JOSEPH ELEMENTARY: Nancy Essary began her career in Catholic schools at Saint Francis Xavier Regional School in 1996. Three years later she became the school principal, then in 2009 she became vice principal at Saint Joseph Catholic High School. This year she was named principal of St. Joseph Elementary. She also serves on the Diocesan Finance Committee and the finance committee of the Diocesan School Board.J.E. COSGRIFF: Jim Larson spent 21 years in the petroleum engineering field before finding a second career as a teacher. For the past six years he has taught 6th- through 8th-grade math and 7th- and 8th-grade science at J.E. Cosgriff Memorial School. He will continue to teach but this year has accepted the position of the school’s vice principal. He also has coached basketball for the Parish Athletic Recreation Association (PARA) for 10 years.
SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST ELEMENTARY: Cynthia Burchett comes to Catholic schools after 30 years in the Jordan School District, where she was a teacher, special education teacher specialist and placement director. She recently received her administrative endorsement and has been named the assistant principal at St. John the Baptist Elementary. Her youngest child is a senior at Judge Memorial Catholic High School; all of her children graduated from J.E. Cosgriff.
