December 23, 1935 ~ September 20, 2021
On September 20, 2021, Osvaldo quietly passed away at 85 years of age, in his home, surrounded by family, in Murray.
Osvaldo was born in 1935 in Chile. He was the oldest son born to Ricardo and Virginia Lopez.
Osvaldo loved motorcycles and model railroading. From a young age, he owned a variety of different bikes and the stories that he shared with his family were of grand adventure and escape. Once motorcycles were no longer in his life, he turned to model railroading creating intricate landscaping and tracks that provided him with hours of fun and entertainment.
Osvaldo and his wife, Aida, moved from Chile to California in 1964. Their families had been friends since Osvaldo was 10 and Aida was 2 years old. One of the family stories was that Osvaldo was forced to spend hours listening to Aida’s piano recitals when he was just a boy.
Aida was an elementary school teacher, so after Osvaldo retired as a tool and die maker, he started volunteering at her school, helping her children with holiday arts and crafts.
He still had the spirit of great adventure in him and once, he just hit the road with a cousin and drove to wherever the road led them. He loved taking the family on camping trips to the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and other national parks. He loved his family very much and would spend hours supporting his children as they pursued different activities and interests.
Osvaldo is preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Aida; by his parents and by his brother, Marcelo.
His children, Pamela (John) MacDonald and Albert (Shona) Lopez, his sister, Carmina, his four grandchildren, Lauren, Mauricio, Kami and Alicia, and two great-grandchildren will miss him greatly.
Many thanks to the staff at Heartwood Home Health Care and Hospice and Home Care Assistance for all their loving care.
A funeral Mass was celebrated on September 25 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Osvaldo was laid to rest next to his wife in the columbarium at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that financial donations be made in his name to the favorite charity of your choice.
