And the Nominees are ...! The finalists for the Utah High School Musical Theater Awards have been announced. The awards will be presented on April 30. Among the nominees are several students from Juan Diego and Saint Joseph Catholic high schools. Best Actress: Lauren Rathburn (Juan Diego) Taylor Nefcy (St. Joseph) Best Supporting Actor: Justin Mendez (St. Joseph) Best Supporting Actress: Bailey Martinez (St. Joseph) St. Joseph Catholic High School was also nominated for: Best Director, Best Choreographer, Best Set Design, Best Costume Design, Best Lighting Design, and Best Ensemble. Juan Diego Catholic High School was also nominated for Best Orchestra. Excelling Students! Alexandria Richens, Adam Thayn, Jennee Martinez, Rachel Scoggins and Samantha Tatton from Saint Anthony of Padua Parish in Helper and Notre Dame de Lourdes Parish in Price were inducted into the Castle Valley Chapter of the National Honor Society on March 3. The students earned this prestigious award not only for their High Honor grade point averages, but for their many volunteer community service hours as well as their involvement in various parish and high school activities. They were honored in a ceremony by their advisor, Jim Thompson, who is a member of Notre Dame Parish. Need for Speed! Austin Versteeg, a 5th grader from Saint John the Baptist Elementary School, became the 2011 Florida Winter Tour Rotax Mini Max Karting Champion after only his second season. Good Energy! Katherine Johnson, a sophomore from Judge Memorial Catholic High School, has been selected as the recipient of the 2011scholarship offered by the Energy Solutions Foundation. The foundation annually sponsors this merit-based scholarship competition recognizing excellence in academics for all Utah sophomores. Take a Stroll! Juan Diego Catholic High School art students Erika DeHerrera, Hali Jansen, Katie Mullin, Jessica Van Wagoner and Devin Turner will be featured in the Local Colors High School Art Show, which started April 15 and will run through April 30 in the gallery at 535 South 700 East, Salt Lake City, www.localcolorart.com. Open Tuesday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Most Thankful for! Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan, the president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, extends his gratitude to Bishop John C. Wester and the Diocese of Salt Lake City for their contribution of $46,404.85 to the 2010 Catholic Relief Services Collection. For the Children! Knights of Columbus Council 6010, Saint Rose of Lima Parish in Layton, raised $500 for the Pregnancy Care Center at their quarterly fundraising breakfast.
