Happy Birthday! Father Martin Diaz, pastor of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus Parish in Midvale, celebrated his 60th birthday on Jan. 16. He plans to celebrate his birthday with a trip to see family.

Derek Garduno, Saint Francis Xavier Regional School alumnus and Judge Memorial Catholic High School Class of 2000, who works for the Jazz public relations department, was named on ksl.com by Dave Noriega for sending "incredible pregame info." Garduno also was named Employee of the Month in June 2010.

Members of the Wasatch Deanery met on Jan. 8 to discuss items on the agenda for the Diocesan Pastoral Council, and to give input for the next DPC meeting.

Top Performers! More than a dozen Judge Memorial Catholic High School student-athletes were recognized for their achievements and named as All-State and All-Region performers for 2010. Named to the Boys Golf UHSAA 3A All-State Team were senior Davis Kinney and junior Charlie Murphy. The Deseret news All-State team included Ben Cook, senior, defensive line, first team; Matt Crispo, junior, honorable mention, Miles Ellis, junior, honorable mention; Daniel Shiramizu, senior, specialist, first team and Christian Weidle, junior, honorable mention. Named to the football All-Region Team (Region XI) were Ben Cook, senior, defensive line, first team; Miles Ellis, junior, honorable mention; Daniel Shiramizu, senior, specialist, first team; and Christian Weidle, junior, honorable mention. On the Girls Soccer Deseret News All-State Team were Hannah Brodke, junior defender, second team; Adrienne Burr, junior midfielder, second team; Danielle Gaztambide, junior forward, first team; Alex Hallows, senior midfielder, honorable mention; Sarah Peterson, sophomore forward, second team and Natalie Warner, senior goalkeeper, honorable mention. For the Girls Soccer Salt Lake Tribune All-State Team were Adrienne Burr, junior midfielder, first team; Danielle Gaztambide, junior midfielder, first team; and Sarah Peterson, sophomore midfielder, second team. Named to the Girls Volleyball Salt Lake Tribune All-State Team was Taylor Gustafson – second team, freshman. Senior Ryley Carman and freshman Taylor Gustafson were named to the Girls Volleyball All-Region Team (Region XI).
