Celebrating 80! Jim Vega, longtime, devoted member of St. Patrick’s Parish, celebrates his 80th birthday in May. Jim’s friends and fellow parishoners from throughout the diocese are invited to send birthday wishes to an e-mail address that has been created for him in celebration of this landmark year: celebrate80@comcast.net.

High Recognition! Natasha Robinson, a senior at Judge Memorial Catholic High School, has been named a Daniel Scholar. The Daniels Scholarship was established by cable pioneer Bill Daniels and is given to students who demonstrate strength of character, leadership, and a record of accomplishment in giving back to the community.

Go Saints! Lauren Tigue, a senior at Juan Diego Catholic High School and a graduate of Blessed Sacrament elementary and middle schools, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at St Martin’s University, a Division II, Benedictine school in Lacey, Wash.

Merushi (Thank you)! Saint Joseph Catholic High School and Juan Diego CHS and Judge Memorial CHS International Student Programs have raised about $1,700 in sushi sales, and another $1,040 in coin donations for the victims of Japan so far.

Watching God! Saint Mary Catholic Parish in West Haven had more than 100 people gathered for the viewing of the movie "Padre Pio, Miracle Man" on March 25. Pastor Father Vidal fielded questions before the movie and during intermission to help people get a better understanding of the Lenten season.

Holy Procession! Fr. Oscar Martin Picos, pastor of Saint George Catholic Church, and Fr. Tai Nguyen, parochial vicar, led over 250 people, including pastors from 15 different faiths, in the 6th annual Ecumenical Way of the Cross. The procession started at the Bluff Street Park and culminated in front of the Bishop Scanlan Catholic Center. A Scriptural passage was read at each station along the one-mile route, and a pastor or member from one of the churches carried the cross. As they proceeded to the next station, young and old joined in singing "Were You There When They Crucified My Lord?"
