O Brother Where Art Thou! Doctoral Pursuit! Jakob Rinderknecht, a member of the RCIA team and leader of the Adult Religious Education Class at Cathedral of the Madeleine Parish has been accepted into the PhD program in Religious Studies at Marquette University in Milwaukee. He will begin work in Systematic Theology this fall, and is hoping to pursue research on the relationship between the Church and salvation, a topic which has received new impetus in the last century, particularly with the Second Vatican Council’s renewed call for dialog with both separated Christians and believers of other religions.

Hot-Shot Coach! Natalie Williams will begin as coach of the Juan Diego Catholic High School Soaring Eagle Girls Basketball team in the fall. Williams was an Olympic gold medalist on the 2000 Women’s Basketball team, and gold medalist on the 1998 and 2002 World Champion Basketball team. She played on the WNBA from 1999-2008, and is one of the top five rebounders in women’s basketball history.

Glückwünsche! In the 2011 American Association of Teacher of German testing, Judge Memorial Catholic High School senior Jake Brugger got the top score German IV. Junior Gabrielle Ghabash and sophomore Julia Pynes tied for second on the German III exam. Junior Caitlin Gruis, who will go on to compete for an award position in the finalist round, finished fifth and junior Kelsey Cavanaugh finished eighth in the same category. Sophomore Chris Oswald finished tenth in German II.

Awarded! The Intermountain Catholic took home two awards at the Utah Press Association award banquet March 19. Bishop John C. Wester’s editorial, "Execution of Ronnie Lee Gardner diminishes our society" placed second in the Best Editorial category. The IC also brought home third place in the Best News Photograph category for a picture by Marie Mischel of the prayer rally prior to the execution.

Many Happy Years! Jack and Barbara Lee celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary on March 21.
