Say a Prayer! Father Thomas L. Culleton, a retired priest with the Diocese of Salt Lake City, fell Tuesday morning and underwent surgery for a broken hip. Prayer Needed! Monsignor Robert C. Pollock, a retired priest with the Diocese of Salt Lake City, had a stroke Sunday evening and is in critical condition at University Hospital. Please keep him in your prayers. Clothes for Kids! Each year Saint Martin de Porres parishioners donate to Catholic Community Services’ Gift of the Drummer program by providing clothes for children in need. This year, the parish will donate new clothing for 60 children of new immigrants through the efforts of Lisa Shumway, who is chairwoman of the project. Something to Consider! The Diocese of Salt Lake City’s Peace & Justice Commission heard a presentation on the probability of future terrorist attacks on the United States on Nov. 16. The keynote speaker, Rolf Mowatt-Larssen, emphasized that the United States must accept the threat and re-establish global credibility. Inciting Muslim/Christian division is what terrorists want. We must encourage the moderates. Mowatt-Larssen is a Senior Fellow at the Belfur Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University. He served more than three decades in the U.S. Army, the CIA, and the Department of Energy. Love for a Quarter of a Century! Mike and Norm Kennedy celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on Nov. 23. Norm is pastoral assistant at St. Thomas More Parish. All their many friends wish them many more years. Christmas Spirit! Saint Rose of Lima Parish in Layton’s Sub-for Santa and Angel Tree program are in full swing. Food is donated by parishioners and friends and then distributed to the needy. Each CCD class also brings in food. An Angel Tree has been set up in the church for Sub-for Santa applicants. Last year 145 families received food and 450 of their children received clothing and toys. Monetary donations are also encouraged. Beat the Drums! Zachary Giddings, son of Evelie and Matthew Giddings, and J.D. Goates, son of Steve Goates and Julie Boerio-Goates, are members of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Orem. Both young men are seniors and were the drum majors for their high school marching bands this year, Zach at Timpview High School in Provo, and J.D. for Orem and Mountain View high schools. Their bands gave outstanding performances in local and regional band competitions, sweeping the awards in all categories at regionals. It’s a Boy! Loran and Lacey Delmas, graduates of Juan Diego 2003, welcomed their first child, Peyton Warren Delmas, on Nov. 29. "Soles for Souls" St John the Baptist Youth Group’s Shoe drive was a wonderful success. They shipped 15 boxes (more than 600 pounds!) containing more than 300 pairs of children’s shoes to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Following is an excerpt from the tribe’s response: Thank you for the recent donations of new shoes for the children that we work with through our tribal child welfare agency. We received an incredible amount of shoes that were donated to provide to our families who have children that are in need. The quality and variety of shoes that we have received has been tremendous and seeing the reaction of some of the children who have received shoes has been a very touching experience. We are extremely grateful for the support to our agency in our mission to help the Lakota children and families of the Oglala Sioux Tribe on the Pine Ridge Reservation. We want to express how appreciative we are.
