Fr. Rodelio Ignacio

Fr. Rodelio Ignacio was born in Valenzuela City, Valenzuela, Philippines. He attended Perpetual Help College of Rizal, then entered Immaculate Conception Major Seminary in Tabe, Guiguinto Bulacan, Philippines, followed by three years at University of Santo Tomas Central Seminary in Manila, Philippines. He holds bachelor’s degrees in philosophy and sacred theology. He speaks Tagalog, English and a little Spanish.

Fr. Ignacio was ordained a priest on Nov. 15, 2008 by Bishop Florentino G. Lavarias for the Diocese of Iba, Philippines. He spent a year each at two separate parishes in that diocese as a parochial vicar, then served as a school chaplain for four years. That was followed by an assignment as a resident priest. In 2019 he came to the Diocese of Salt Lake City, where he was assigned as parochial vicar of St. Mary Parish, West Haven for a few months, then at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish in Park City and St. Lawrence Mission in Heber. On Aug. 3 he will begin his new assignment as administrator of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Sandy and chaplain of the parish school.

What would you like your new parishioners to know about you?

I would like my new parishioners to know that they should not afraid of me. I’m here to bring Christ’s love and mercy, and I’m open to hear their needs.

What are you looking forward to most about your new assignment?

I’m really happy to be assigned in the Blessed Sacrament Parish. My regular devotion to the Blessed Sacrament helped me in my discernment to enter to the priesthood, and I want to share that devotion to the faithful.

As a priest, what has been your greatest challenge?

My greatest challenge as a priest has been to express to the people that they are accepted, cared and loved by the Church, and to let the people know that we are one Body of Christ.

As a priest, what has been your most satisfying experience?

The most satisfying part of being a priest is that after a long day of ministry and being tired, at the end of the day I feel happy. Doing my ministry brings me joy and peace.
