Intermountain Catholic

Father Rogelio Felix-Rosas was born in Navojoa, Sonora, Mexico. He attended the Seminario Diocesano de Ciudad Obregon, where he earned degrees in philosophy and theology. He was ordained a priest on Jan. 29, 2005 by the Most Rev. Ulises Macias Salcedo, Archbishop of Hermosillo.
After ordination, he held several assignments, included as diocesan director of lay ministries, seminarian spiritual formation, teacher of theology and philosophy, parish administrator and secretary of the presbyteral council. He then was pastor of three different parishes, and served as director of vocations, director of youth ministry and vice-chancellor of the bishop’s office.
He arrived in the Diocese of Salt Lake City in 2016. He was parochial vicar at Saint Mary of the Assumption Parish in Park City, then at Saint Francis of Assisi Parish in Orem. In 2020 he was appointed administrator of Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish in Logan. He was incardinated into the diocese in June. On Aug. 1 he will begin his new assignment as pastor of Saint Francis Xavier Parish in Kearns.
“As I begin this new chapter with you, I want to share a little about the journey that has brought me here,” he said. “From small rural parishes to more urban settings, I have seen the beauty of the living Church in different communities. I have served as a seminary formator, parish priest, and Vice Secretary for Chancellor in my Diocese of Ciudad Obregón, Sonora. What I have learned is that ministry is not just about giving, but about mutual transformation.”
“Over time, I have come to understand that being a priest is not about having all the answers,” he added. “It is about listening, loving and accompanying people in our shared search for God. I bring with me the joys, challenges and lessons of this long journey, and I hope to learn from you as well. This parish of St. Francis Xavier is now part of that journey, and I pray that we may grow together in faith, service and joy.”
In his spare time Fr. Rogelio enjoys reading, especially history, biographies and spiritual writings. He also really enjoys music – he comes from a musical family; his father plays the accordion.
In addition, “Whenever I can, I like to spend time outdoors, whether it’s taking a leisurely walk, mountain biking, or simply enjoying the beauty of creation in this state of Utah,” he said. “And I confess I also enjoy a good cup of coffee and conversation.”
Speaking to his new parishioners, Fr. Rogelio said, “I’m excited to be here and look forward to getting to know each of you: your stories, your families, and your faith.”
