Intermountain Catholic

Fr. Victor Alvarado was born in Ilobasco, Cabañas, El Salvador. He began his journey toward the priesthood in the minor seminary, entering the propaedeutic year after spending some time studying Clinical Laboratory Sciences at the School of Medical Technology at the University of El Salvador. He later completed his studies in philosophy and theology at Seminario Nuestra Señora del Camino in Guatemala and Seminario Mayor Pío XII in El Salvador. He was ordained a priest on April 12, 2008, by the Most Rev. José Luis Escobar Alas, Archbishop of San Salvador.
Before arriving in the United States, Fr. Victor served several pastoral assignments in El Salvador, including  as administrator of Santa Clara Parish in Santa Clara, San Vicente; parochial vicar of Saint Michael the Archangel, Santa Bárbara, Our Lady of the Forsaken and El Calvario de Ilobasco parishes; and as diocesan youth ministry leader and police chaplain as well as religious education teacher in several Catholic schools across the diocese.
In 2023, he arrived in Utah. During his first month of orientation, he assisted in the Cathedral of the Madeleine. He was then appointed as the parochial vicar at Saint Joseph Parish in Ogden, where he ministered to both English and Spanish-speaking communities.
Beginning Aug. 1 he will be the administrator of Saint Bridget Parish in Milford  and its associated missions: Saint John Bosco in Delta, Holy Family in Fillmore, and Saint Gertrude in Beaver.
Fr. Victor was ordained to the priesthood on April 12, 2008 at a church located less than a mile from his parents’ home.
“I’ve been a priest for more than 17 years, and every moment of this journey has been a gift – sometimes a challenging one, but always filled with the presence of God,” he said about his faith journey.
He believes deeply that “Jesus is alive and walking with us, especially in the ordinary moments of life,” he said. “My faith has grown not just through study, but by walking with the People of God through baptisms and funerals, laughter and tears, doubts and miracles.”
Addressing his new parishioners, he said, “I hope to walk with you as a brother and a priest, and to grow together in faith and mission.”
He prefers to be addressed as Fr. Victor, “which I’m very comfortable with,” he said. “In Spanish, Padre Víctor is what people normally use. If it helps people feel close and respected, then it’s good.”
When he is not ministering in the parish, Fr. Victor enjoys listening to music (especially classical), reading books and science articles, and watching films with good storytelling, he said.
“I also enjoy cooking simple meals, going for a walk, and connecting with friends and family back home,” he said. “I try to keep a good sense of humor; it’s one of God’s gifts to keep us human and humble.”
He thanked all the parishioners at St. Joseph for welcoming him and making his transition to the diocese “full of grace. To my new parishioners in Milford, Beaver, Fillmore and Delta – I look forward to discovering the beauty of your communities, walking with you in faith, and learning how best to serve you. Please pray for me, as I will for you.”
