Poster winners advance to international competition

Local students whose entries won the Knights of Columbus Substance Abuse Awareness Poster Contest now are waiting for the judging of the international competition, with results to be announced this month. Two of the state winners were from Saint Francis Xavier Regional School: Mariah Trujillo and Eva Marisol Barajas, who both entered the Drug Awareness category. Trujillo entered her poster in the 8-11 age group and Barajas in the 12-14 age group. Knight of Columbus Ray Folks, poster program director; Brad Miller, Grand Knight of Council 5214; and Knights of Columbus Tom Giron, Michael Glenn and Bill McCauley, district deputy, presented the girls with a plaque and $50. The girls received the awards following a youth Mass at Saint Francis Xavier Parish.

Natalie Montoya, a fifth grader at Blessed Sacrament School in Sandy, won the Knights of Columbus Alcohol Awareness poster contest in her age category in the Alcohol Awareness category.
