April 26, 1940 ~ February 27, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ramona (Nan) Gonzalez, who left this world unexpectedly on February 27, 2025, at the age of 84 at Saint Mark’s Hospital.

Born on April 26, 1940, in Las Animas, Colorado, Nan was the beloved oldest child of Josephine Duran Gonzalez and Primitivo Gonzalez. She graduated from West High School in 1959 and went on to have a successful career at both Merrill Lynch and the Salt Lake Tribune. After retiring from the Tribune, she devoted her time to caring for her mother for many years.

Though she never married, Nan was a loving mother figure to many nieces and nephews, showing them kindness, support and generosity throughout her life. She was known for being the best sister ever – smart, kind, loving, forgiving and deeply generous. Nan treated everyone she met with warmth and respect, and her selfless nature touched everyone she encountered. She was also never afraid to tell it like it was, always speaking her mind with honesty.

As the matriarch of the family, Nan was the heart and soul of family gatherings, especially during holidays. She hosted countless meals, bringing the family together with her delicious cooking and boundless hospitality. Anyone who visited was welcomed with a hot meal and a caring heart.

Nan was preceded in death by her parents Josephine and Primitivo Gonzalez; her brothers Pasqual Gonzalez and Ernesto Gonzalez; and her sister Mary (Bob) Tulin. She was also preceded by her cherished nephews and niece: Robbie Tulin, Timmy Gonzalez, Adam Smit and Jessica Smit.

Nan is survived by her sisters Antonia (Douglas) Grodt and Gloria Gonzalez and beloved nieces and nephews Mark (Lynette) Andreasen, Michael (Alicia) Gonzalez, Matt (Sarah) Smit, Rick (Marissa) Tulin, Kelly (Sam) Tulin, Theresa Gonzales, Frances McNiel and many great-nieces and -nephews who cherished her.

While her physical presence is no longer with us, Nan’s legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Nan was an active member of the Catholic Church. A funeral Mass was celebrated on March 7, 2025 at Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, West Jordan.
