July 2, 1931 ~ May 30, 2024
Ramona Valdez, 92, passed away peacefully at her home in Price, surrounded by her loving family on May 30, 2024. She was born July 2, 1931 in Lumberton, New Mexico to Merced and Marie Elena Archuleta Salazar. She married her beloved husband, Daniel J. Valdez, on November 27, 1948 in Helper, Utah. He preceded her in death on April 10, 2021.
Throughout her life, she was always committed to serving others and was a true mother to all. For many years she served as the secretary and was a proud member of the Mexican Lodge and also served as a past socio vice-president. She was a faithful member of Notre Dame de Lourdes Parish and served in numerous capacities, including her membership in the Spanish choir and the Notre Dame Altar Society. Throughout her many years of service, she was also a fantastic cook who served up countless meals for Notre Dame School and the Notre Dame Daughters of Charity.
Ramona, among her other accomplishments and recognitions, was also awarded the Price, Utah “All Spruced Up” award, commemorating her beautiful home and yard, and was proudly recognized by her parish as the Notre Dame de Lourdes “Woman of the Year.”
Ramona lived by one motto: “Love your Neighbor; Feed the Poor; Heal the Sick; Welcome the Stranger; and BINGO!” She will be deeply missed by her loving family, parish and extended community of friends.
Ramona is survived by her daughters Dorothy Dunbar of Anchorage, Alaska, and Naomi (Marvin) Montoya of West Valley City; son Jim Valdez of Price; son-in-law Jim Sandoval of Ogden; brothers Horace (Teri) Salazar of Long Beach, California and John Salazar of Payson; along with numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; children Dr. Don Sanchez, Harold “Lalo” Valdez, Elaine Sandoval and Cheryl “Candy” Hess; a grandson, Santiago Sandoval; brother Joe “Tony” Salazar; and sisters Rose Jacquez, Virginia Valles and Emily Madrigal.
A funeral Mass was celebrated June 7, 2024, at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church in Price.
Committal services followed in the Cliffview Cemetery.
