Ray P. Campos
September 24, 1934 ~ May 26, 2023
Our beloved father, Ray P. Campos, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2023, at the home of his son, Larry Campos, where he was being cared for in his final weeks.
Born September 24, 1934, to Ray and Julia Campos, He graduated from Judge Memorial Catholic High School and married Connie Marie Mascarenas on November 21, 1954. Ray and Connie made their home open to all who needed help; they were always willing to open their home to troubled kids or anyone who needed a place to stay.
Ray served in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany for two years. His wife Connie and their two sons, Rodney and Larry, joined him and their third son Kevin, was born in Germany. After serving in the army, Ray shifted his career path and worked in the trucking industry, owned a business (Campos Drive Inn) and retired from Salt Lake Community College.
He was a devoted member of St. Martin de Porres Parish, a doting husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. Aside from his love for his family, he also loved sports. Ray coached Little League baseball, football and basketball. He was a fan of the Utah Utes, Norte Dame Fighting Irish, and, of course, the Utah Jazz. Ray enjoyed the small adventures of camping and boating with his loved ones and friends.
Ray is survived by Rod (Deborah), Larry (Teri), Terry, Jeff (Heidi), and Nick (Sonia). He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Connie; sons Joseph, Kevin and Jim; and brother James.
Ray’s personality and humor shined at all times, making it a joy for everyone he knew. He made very witty remarks and playful jabs at those he loved (and those he didn’t). His gratitude towards those who cared for him, including his family, friends and doctors (especially Superior Home Healthcare) is heartfelt and very much appreciated.
A funeral Mass was celebrated June 5 at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Taylorsville. Ray was laid to rest at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
