Raymond William Binkerd

SALT LAKE CITY — Raymond William Binkerd, 74, died Sept. 1, 2010.

Binkerd was born Nov. 14, 1935 in Salt Lake City to Charles A. and Nedra McFarlane Binkerd. As a youth, he overcame the effects of polio to have an interesting life. He graduated from South High School, attended Westminster College and graduated from the FBI. Academy. He served in the United States Naval Reserves and was active with the U.S.S. James E. Kyes (DD 787) Association. His law enforcement career was with the South Salt Lake Police Department and Salt Lake County Sheriff Office. He retired as a deputy sheriff. He later was a security director for Skaggs Associates and supervisor for Salt Lake County Public Works Dispatchers and Security. He was also employed by the Salt Lake Bees Baseball Club in the Pioneer/Pacific Coast Leagues. He was past president of the Salt Lake Chapter Footprinters Association and the Utah Chapter of FBI National Academy Associates.

He was extremely proud of his children’s and grandchildren’s scholastic and athletic achievements. He married JoAnn Shirts; they divorced. He married Joanie Kuhn; they divorced.

He is survived by his sons Chuck (Patti) Binkerd, Scott (Jaye) Binkerd, Toni Binkerd (Gregg) Wyeth; step-sons Bill (Patti) Kuhn and Bob (Kathy) Kuhn; 15 grandchildren; and his brother Frank (Buffy) Binkerd.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Interment was in Wasatach Lawn Memorial Park.
