SALT LAKE CITY — The Diocesan Council of Catholic Women will hold its 2023 convention April 22-23 at the Sheraton Salt Lake City Hotel. “DCCW Wide Open Hearts: Abiding in Faith, Hope and Love for the Eucharist” is the theme for this year’s convention.
The keynote speaker will be Father Christopher Gray, pastor of St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church in Park City, who will speak on “Easter Joy in the Eucharist Church.”
Fr. Gray attended The Madeleine Choir School and Judge Memorial Catholic High School. While working at this newspaper as a staff writer and associate editor, he studied mathematics and Spanish at the University of Utah. After discerning a call to the priesthood, Fr. Gray entered Mt. Angel Seminary. He received a Bachelor of Sacred Theology (STB) from the Pontifical Gregorian University in 2012, was ordained a priest by the Most Rev. John C. Wester in 2013 at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, and went on to receive a Licentiate of Sacred Theology (STL) from the Pontifical Lateran University in 2014.
Fr. Gray is head of the leadership team that is organizing the Eucharistic Revival in the Diocese of Salt Lake City.
Those who attend the convention will also hear from Holy Cross Sister Veronica Farjado, a licensed clinical social worker who is a bilingual therapist at Holy Cross Ministries. Sr. Farjado, who works with survivors of trauma, families and parenting support groups, will speak on “Responding with Eagerness to the Body of Christ.”
Both of these speakers will be on Saturday. That day there will also be an exhibit on the Eucharistic Miracles of Blessed Carlos Acutis and a documentary about his life. In addition, women who attend the convention will be able to participate in Eucharistic Adoration and have the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation before attending Mass at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, which will be celebrated by Bishop Oscar A. Solis.
The Woman of the Year Banquet, where outstanding women from each parish will be honored for their contributions, will be held that evening.
On Sunday, Deacon Greg Werking and Paula Terry of the diocesan Respect Life Commission will provide their perspectives on the work that still needs to be done to honor all life after the repeal of Roe vs Wade.
Registration deadline for the convention is March 22; all registrations require prepayment. Some scholarships may be available. For information, email dccw.sec@gmail.com or visit dccwutah.org.
