Richard (Dick) Knoblauch Griffin

January 21, 1929 ~ June 30, 2025

Richard “Dick” Knoblauch Griffin passed away peacefully June 30, 2025 at the age of 96.  He was born January 21, 1929 to Robert W. Griffin and Isabelle Knoblauch. His childhood was spent in rural towns across Utah as his father worked as an engineer, designing Utah’s roadways. He attended Judge Memorial Catholic High School. He graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in civil engineering. He served in the Korean War from 1951-53. He was a beloved uncle to his siblings’ children and joined them for many adventures while he was in his bachelor years.
Dick married Jackie Carter on August 22, 1968 and together with her three children moved to Cedar City, where they had two additional children: Catherine and Teresa. Together, Dick and Jackie nurtured their five children and led them on a myriad of adventures. They were fortunate to be able to have their grandson Bryce in their home in his early years and treasured their time with him.
Dick was an explorer and adventurer. He led many a trip with family members and dear friends to hunt, fish, go to the World’s Fair, float the Green River, camp at Posey Lake, hike to Calf Creek, chase floods, and other adventures. He enjoyed gardening for many years and Jackie would share the produce with neighbors. He was an avid swimmer up until the past couple of years, which certainly lengthened his life of good health.
Dick was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, where he attended Mass faithfully.
He is survived by his children Catherine (Roger) Hill of Washington, Utah; and Teresa Griffin (Ron Lindberg) of Cedar City; and a loving covey of grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Jackie; his children Carl, Sharon and Scott; great-grandchild Knox Werner; and his siblings Robert Griffin, Imogene Mingo and Anita Griffin.
Funeral services were held July 7, 2025 at Christ the King Catholic Church.  To leave online condolences, visit www.mortuary.org.
His family expresses much gratitude for his daughter Teresa’s loving care for our Dad in his final months. The family wishes to thank Hilda and Becca for their care and kindness, and Dr. Todd M. Garrett for his exceptional care.
