Robert Comstock, 71, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 26, 2024. Born on January 31, 1953, Robert led a life of dedication to family, service and community.
Robert will be remembered as a beloved teacher at Oquirrh Hills Middle School, where he taught wood shop for 13 years. Robert was a master carpenter and woodworker who took joy in passing down his knowledge of woodworking to the next generations, inspiring students with his kindness and expertise.
Robert’s strong faith guided him throughout his life. Robert was a parishioner at St. Ann Catholic Church and an active member of the Utah Interfaith Association, fostering unity and understanding among Salt Lake’s diverse religious communities.
Robert believed strongly in democratic values. His passion for justice and equality was reflected in his staunch support of the Democratic Party. He regularly served as a delegate and volunteered to register people to vote, making a difference in his community through civic engagement. His dedication to public service was further exemplified by his candidacies for Utah Senate and state party chair, highlighting his tireless work to uplift his community. Robert’s legacy is one of selfless service and profound impact, inspiring all who have had the privilege of working with him.
Robert had a knack for connecting with others, turning strangers into friends wherever he went. His boundless curiosity and compassion for others meant he never missed an opportunity to form new friendships, whether dining out, attending a concert, or even just running an errand for a few groceries. Known for his beautiful singing voice, Robert was an esteemed member of the Oratorio Society and the Jubilate Choir, using his talent to volunteer at local hospitals, bringing comfort and joy to patients through music. Robert’s academic achievements included a bachelor’s degree in social work and a master’s degree in teaching, reflecting his lifelong commitment to helping others and sharing knowledge.
He is survived by his loving wife Maureen; sister Vicki; brother Jeff; daughter Sarah; son David; stepchildren Andrew, Shannon, George and Alice; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Robert’s presence in their lives was a source of strength and joy, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held on September 7, 2024 at noon at St. Ann Catholic Church, 50 East 2100 South, Salt Lake City. A celebration of Robert’s life will follow.
