SALT LAKE CITY — Robert ("Bob") Leonard Bero passed away Oct. 30, 2012 at the Utah State Veterans Nursing Home.

Bero was born Aug. 24, 1931 in Salt Lake City to Harry and Mary Bero. He was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Parish, SLC, where he was an usher for more than 50 years. He attended Judge Memorial Catholic High School, graduating in 1949. He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1954. He married Martha Ann Yelenich in 1957. He received numerous awards during his career as an official and was inducted into multiple sports Halls of Fame.

Bero was preceded in death by his daughter Mary Christine, his brothers John and Bill and his parents.

Bero is survived by his children: Rob (Janeen), Helen (Rick Van Wagoner) and Marcie (Ken Rivera); four grandchildren; and sisters Mary Hearley, Sara Shalvoy and Sue Smales.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
