DRAPER — Students at Saint John the Baptist celebrated Red Ribbon Week in October. The event’s ultimate goal is the creation of drug free America. Saint John the Baptist middle and elementary schools spent two weeks focusing on the drug-free message with themes for each day. All middle school students wrote a Red Ribbon poem. Selected poems were read each morning and afternoon of the week. Each middle school home base created a Red Ribbon poster with their own theme and art work. The winning posters from sixth, seventh, and eighth grades were awarded a treat. Students also were able to wear clothes each day that fit a drug-free theme. In addition, 54 middle school students participated in the Knight of Columbus "Substance Abuse Awareness" Poster Contest. The entries were judged by the middle school teachers based on slogan, visual quality, and overall impact. First place went to Lucas McFarlane. Second place was a tie between Libby Allnatt and Wyatt Garrison. Third place went to Courtney O’Brien. All four students were from the eighth grade.
