OGDEN — Saint Joseph Elementary School hosted a Monster Math Night on Oct. 11. Families gathered to have a fun math evening with a variety of Halloween-themed math activities for all ages from preschool to eighth grade. Each grade hosted its own math activity, from playing counting games to playing GHOST, a game about probability and decision making with dice. Fifth-grade teacher Justin Rague created a YouTube promotional video to the theme song "Monster Mash," which got students and families excited to participate in the evening events. About 200 parents and students attended the evening of math madness. The math night reinforced the importance of math in students’ everyday activities. St. Joseph teachers play a vital role in teaching the fundamentals and shaping their students’ attitudes towards math, which leads to the students’ ultimate success. The night also provided fun ideas for parents to incorporate math in family games at home.
