Jaime Zuazo
Special to the Intermountain Catholic
It has been four and a half years since I began my journey of formation in the seminary. This road has been green and rainy like the State of Oregon; with little sun sometimes, but with the support of the prayers of the Benedictine monks, the guidance of the seminary professors, spiritual guides, formators and psychologists. I have had the company of young people and adults who follow the same path as me, from whom I have learned and who have encouraged me to follow my vocation.
This path has also had stops that have allowed me to enjoy the ocean, the snow, my family and my diocese. I’ve gotten to know different communities; good people who have allowed me to be a part of their life of faith: Saints Peter and Paul Parish in West Valley City, Sacred Heart Parish in Salt Lake City, St. Marguerite Parish in Tooele, St. Therese of the Child Jesus Parish in Midvale, and Christ the King Parish in Cedar City. Everything I have encountered along the way has enriched me. Study, relationships, distance and silence have allowed me to get to know Jesus better. The different stops on this path have allowed me to get to know myself better and to value my family and my diocese. I am still the same Jaime: nervous, distracted, intense, stubborn and a dreamer who trusts more in the love of God and in the richness of our Catholic Church.
Thank you, family, friends, people of Utah for your support, for your prayers and for allowing me to be a part of your lives. May God bless you and may Our Mother Mary protect you.
