The Intermountain Catholic asked the Diocese of Salt Lake City’s seminarians about their summer ministry. Their responses follow.
Michael Weight, Saint George Parish
I served my summer assignment at Saint George Parish, the refugium of the southwest desert. Though each day brought temperatures rivaling the surface of Venus, I was privileged to serve daily Mass, incense and glorify the Lord every day at Benediction, along with accompanying the priests as they anointed the sick, blessed the homes of the faithful, and served the People of God in whatever need they had. I was able to organize several talks to the young professionals and teenagers on vocational discernment and offered public lectures on praying for the dead and the Liturgy of the Hours. Two particular highlights were all-night vigils for both the Solemnity of Corpus Christi and Mary Magdalene’s Feast Day, where Scripture was read, prayers recited, and reflections given on the august mysteries of the Lord’s Body and Blood and our patroness, Mary Magdalene before the Lord in Adoration. Many, myself included, came to encounter the Lord in a manner we had not before and see the working of the Spirit before our very eyes.
