Simbang Gabi novena underway

Father Joseph Frez, pastor of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus Parish, celebrates the first Mass in the 2013 Simbang Gabi novena on Dec. 15 at his parish. The Simbang Gabi is a Filipino tradition during which Masses are celebrated during the nine nights prior to Christmas. The schedule for the final Masses in the novena is:

Friday, Dec. 20, 7 p.m. at Saint Mary Catholic Church, 4050 South 3900 West, West Haven;

Saturday, Dec. 21, 6 p.m. at Saint Lawrence Mission, 5 South 100 West, Heber;

Sunday, Dec. 22, 7 p.m. at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church, 2315 Redondo Ave., Salt Lake City;

Monday, Dec. 23, 7 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1745 East 9800 South, Sandy.

At each Mass a collection will be taken for relief efforts for the victims of Super Typhoon Hiayan, and after each Mass traditional Filipino food is offered. IC photo/Marie Mischel
