Sister M. Guadalupe Cardenas

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Holy Cross Sister M. Guadalupe Cardenas (Maria Luisa), 93, died Aug. 3 in Notre Dame, Ind.

Sr. Guadalupe was born July 9, 1915, in Zinaparo Michaocan, Mexico, to Luis and Antonia Mena Cardenas. She began her early education at Holy Cross School and Saint Catherine’s Academy in Ventura, Calif. After entering the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, she was assigned to Idaho and Utah, where she taught for nine years. She then taught in California, for 37 years, and Texas, for 11 years. Due to health-related issues, she returned to Saint Mary’s Convent where she was active in prayer ministry until her death.

She is survived by her nieces, Mary Helen (Charles) Solano, Ruth (Edward) Rodriquez, Rose (Bob) Garcia, Carmen Inez Ramirez; and nephews, Ray Ramirez, Pascual Ramirez, Gilbert Ramirez, all of California; Gilermo Ramirez, of Montana.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, in Notre Dame, Ind.
