SALT LAKE CITY — Fall was a busy season at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School. We started off by hosting our annual Veterans’ Day Celebration. Students were asked to bring a veteran to school so that he/she could talk about their service to our country. Classes made cards for the veterans and enjoyed hearing about their experiences. The day was made extra-special by a presentation on Navajo culture. Two performers danced, talked about their culture, and had some fascinating things to say about the acclaimed Navajo Code Talkers.

At the beginning of December, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School partnered with the King’s English Bookshop to present an annual fundraising event. Margaret Neville of King’s English talked to the students at the school about books they might enjoy. Then she hosted a book talk for adults in the evening. By purchasing books at King’s English, Our Lady of Lourdes families raised $557. The proceeds will be used to purchase books for the school. Ms. Neville said it was one of their most successful events.

Families were treated to another event in December with the school’s annual Christmas concert. Each class sang songs to celebrate Christ’s birth. The newly formed Our Lady of Lourdes School choir sang a few numbers as well.

We wrapped up the festivities with our annual Breakfast with Santa party. Each class got to meet Santa and have individual pictures taken with him. Then the pajama-clad students sat down to a pancake breakfast. Organizer Janet Williams estimated that we fed 400 people! At the end of the day, the students sat in their family groups to play several rousing rounds of bingo. Winners got to choose from an assortment of fun prizes and the day ended with the students singing "Happy Birthday" to Jesus and sharing a small treat.
