St. James the Just Parish in Ogden announced the creation of the parish’s Council of Catholic Women, an affiliate of the National Council of Catholic Women, at their Spring Wine and Cheese Social, which was attended by approximately 30 women.
The CCW works to support, empower and educate all Catholic women in spirituality, leadership and service to the parish and surrounding community. The council will work to support Father David Trujillo, the parish’s pastor, all other ministries of the parish, and the surrounding local community.
Chris DeHerrera, St. James CCW president, said that the idea of launching the Council rose out of a desire by the women of the parish to have an opportunity to come together in service, community and faith sharing in everyday life. She said, “Now more than ever before we need to engage on so many levels within our communities and do the best that we can to strengthen our connections to the world, each other and God. We all need a beacon of hope and light, and the newly founded CCW hopes to provide the conduit for that within our parish and community.”
St. James the Just CCW board members include DeHerrera, president; Maria Devereux, vice president; Georgia Nicholas, treasurer; and Lisa Carver, secretary. Fr. Trujillo will serve as the council’s spiritual advisor.
The National Council of Catholic Women was founded in 1920 by the U.S. Catholic bishops to provide all Catholic women a common voice and an instrument of unified action. For information about the St. James the Just Council, contact the parish at 801-782-7372.
