Jeramy Hunt-Loveless has arrived on the St. Joseph Catholic High School campus with a vision: to secure a position in eight-man football in the 2023-2024 school year.
The three-time conference champion who was a player with Utah State University and a dedicated coach to many since has decided St. Joseph CHS is where he wants to be. This is the place to build a program full of possibilities.
There is a lot that goes into the school’s mission and getting this project off the ground, including building a youth football development program, fundraising, equipment and, most importantly, players and fans.
Hunt-Loveless is ready for the challenge, and can’t wait to see his vision of Friday Night Lights come to life.
“Imagine a tailgate pregame meal for staff and family as you see smoke coming from the grill, the taste of a great burger or dog, little St. Joe’s students and siblings running around playing catch in their football jerseys, students and families in the stands all in yellow gold and forest green,” he said. “Pre-game and halftime opportunity to showcase our student body’s skills for leadership, sports med, music, dance and cheer squads, etc. Can you hear the drums now and the excitement of the crowd?”
Hunt-Loveless feels the excitement, as football across the state started a couple of weeks ago.
“I can’t wait for the team clap session before getting taped and dressed and the feeling that comes with it, pregame chapel before we head to the field,” he said. “Watching each player slap our team’s Achieve & Believe commitment sign as we leave the locker room to the field. I can’t wait to hear our first national anthem played or sung with our football team standing shoulder to shoulder watching the color guard with the flags, standing tall together ready to take the gridiron with confidence and to play our hearts out for our home crowd, to also play for our past, present and future Jayhawk family. I can’t wait to hear your cheers and the crowds, the whistle of the referees and the roar of our first big touchdown win echoing off the mountain so loud the whole Ogden valley knows the Jayhawks won tonight!”
The coach’s excitement and commitment to building a successful program at St. Joe’s is evident in his words and actions every day.
“I can’t wait, after shaking hands with the other team, taking a knee in the middle of our field expressing gratitude with the team and saying the Lord’s Prayer together,” he said. “I can’t wait for the team to run over to you in the stands and sing our school’s fight song together and celebrate together with family, student body and alumni. I hope you all can see it, hear it, smell it and feel it, too. It’s a great time to be a Jayhawk.”
