Mercedes Randhahn, freshman at St. Joseph Catholic School, has been selected to compete in the Broadcom MASTERS Science Competition, one of the nation’s premier Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) middle school competitions. To qualify for that competition, she was selected as one of the top 30 out of 10,000 participants. She will be in Washington, D.C. Oct. 25-30, participating with the other finalists in a competition to test and demonstrate their mastery of critical thinking, communication, creativity and collaboration in each of the STEM areas. The students will compete for more than $100,000 in awards; winners will be announced at a ceremony Oct. 29.
