LAYTON — Advent themes will be addressed during a Nov. 23 parish retreat at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

The retreat, which will be in English, will be led by Father Gustavo Vidal, pastor.

“This retreat will help us to prepare for Advent,” said Fr. Vidal, adding that, with themes such as the Kingdom of Heaven, “we are going to discern this from the perspective of Saint Luke and the Apostles.”

Advent is about the coming of the Messiah, Fr. Vidal said, “and part of this is that when he arrived, he shared the news of the heavenly kingdom.”

Those attending also will be able to learn about hope, Fr. Vidal said.

“All this is related to the coming of our Savior. … Jesus is the one who conquers all that men could not conquer: sin, evil and death,” he said. “Jesus conquered these through his Passion, death and resurrection.”

Jesus, fully God and fully man, was “born with a divine nature and with a human nature, and with this he is the only one who can save us,” Fr. Vidal said.
