LOGAN — The airy spaces of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church resonated with a full instrumental ensemble and children’s voices in an evening of "Capriccio Espagnol" Oct. 26 before a capacity audience.

Featured was the Utah State University Symphony Orchestra, directed by Sergio Bernal and the Cache Children’s Choir under direction of Sylvia Munsen. Bradley Ottesen was guest violist and Deborah Baker Monday, guest composer.

Both Bernal and Baker Monday are parishioners of St. Thomas Aquinas.

The program featured Wolgang Amadeus Mozart’s "Symphony No. 35, first movement," followed by "Synergy" composed by Deborah Monday, who was in the audience during the performance. Also performed was Ralph Vaughan William’s "Suite for Viola and Small Orchestra" with Ottesen as soloist.

The Cache Children’s Choir performed Antonio Vivaldi’s "Gloria." The evening’s free performance ended with Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s "Capriccio Espagnol. Both the orchestra and the choir are under the auspices of Utah State University’s Caine College of the Arts.

The next concert scheduled for St. Thomas Aquinas will be "Wintersongs" featuring the USU Chorale and the USU Women’s Choir on Nov 30 at 7:30 p.m. The organ of St. Thomas will be featured, as well as brass instruments, bells, a candlelight processional, and congregational singing.
