Statue is restored Photo 1 of 2
Father Jose Barrera, former administrator of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Parish in Midvale, is shown at the Aug. 7 blessing of the statue of the parish's patron saint.

A restored statue of St. Therese of Lisieux was dedicated at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church in Midvale on Aug. 7 in honor of Fr. André Sicard’s ordination to the priesthood. Fr. Sicard grew up in the parish, and was ordained a priest on June 30. The statue had been vandalized on Sept. 15, 2020; members of the Juan Diego Catholic High School community were among those who donated to the restoration, which was done by Fidel Raul Gomez of Firenze Art Restoration, whose work highlighted the statue’s historical uniqueness. The statue has been installed next to the parish’s CCD building, its third location on the parish grounds. The first was toward the back wall of the original church, which was built in 1972. When the current church was built in 2009, the statue was placed at the entrance. Shown is Father Jose Barrera, the parish administrator, at the blessing of the statue. On Aug. 2 Fr. Barrera became administrator of San Felipe Parish in Wendover.
