Student surprised and honored to be scholarship recipient

SALT LAKE CITY — Sydney Austin an eighth grader at J.E. Cosgriff Memorial Catholic School is the recipient of the 2009 Monsignor Vaughan Scholarship Award. The award was established in 1988 by the family of the late Msgr. William E. Vaughan, third pastor of St. Ambrose Parish. The scholarship which includes tuition, books, and fees is presented to one eighth grader for exhibiting outstanding qualities of scholarship, leadership, sportsmanship, and Christian ethics. Sydney was chosen for the award by the middle school and special teachers at J.E. Cosgriff. Sydney has attended Cosgriff since kindergarten and is looking forward to attending Judge Memorial Catholic High School next year. She was very surprised and honored that her teachers picked her for this award. Sydney dances for CDT, and plays basketball and softball. She is the daughter of Jedd and Raquel Austin and is a member of St. Ambrose Parish in Salt Lake City.
