At left, the ninth Station of the Cross, The Third Fall, is found in St. George Church, St. George. Now at the end of the long road toward the place of crucifixion, Jesus falls under the weight of the cross a third and final time. At right, from Christ the King Church in Cedar City, comes the 10th station entitled Jesus is Stripped of his Garments. At the foot of the Cross, the soldiers draw lots to divide Jesus’ clothes, including the "tunic without seam from top to bottom" mentioned in John’s Gospel. The Evangelists describe the scene with words drawn from Psalm 22:19; by doing so they tell us the same thing that Jesus would tell his disciples on the road to Emmaus: that everything takes place "according to the Scriptures." A mixture of both old and new, the molded plaster station was given a new backing of wood during the transition to the new church dedicated in 2005.
