Utah Knights of Columbus donate tens of thousands of dollars to foster vocations in Salt Lake diocese

SALT LAKE CITY — In 2021, The Knights of Columbus of Utah donated more than $21,000 directly to diocesan seminarians and nearly $9,000 to diocesan vocation programs.

Andre Sicard, one of the seminarians supported by the program, wrote, “I have been blessed to be a part of the support the Knights of Columbus offer to seminarians in the Diocese of Salt Lake City over the past seven years I have been in seminary. The financial support the Knights offer to our diocese’s seminarians serve as a reminder of the dedication the Knights have in fostering and supporting vocations. I have been overwhelmed and humbled by the prayerful and generous support they have offered me.

“It means a lot to me to know so many different councils in the diocese are praying for vocations, for our seminarians, and for me as I journey toward the priesthood. The Knights’ support is an encouragement to prepare myself well to serve and minister in and for the Body of Christ in Utah. I am deeply grateful for the Knights of Columbus’s support!”

The funds are collected from fundraisers at local Knights councils and by donations by individual Knights.

“We’re continuing our long tradition of supporting our priests and religious by sustaining those who desire to follow in their footsteps,” said Knights of Columbus Utah State Deputy Nick Neilson. “These funds are just a part of the millions of dollars Knights of Columbus around the world provide as direct seminarian support, scholarships, and vocation promotion.”

The Knights of Columbus is an international Catholic fraternal organization with more than 2 million members in more than 15,000 councils throughout the world. There are nearly 3,000 Knights of Columbus in 37 councils in Utah.
