Viola F. Gonzales
August 13, 1941 ~ May 19, 2022
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and sister, Viola F. Gonzales, was called home on May 19, 2022, after an unexpected accident. She was born on August 13, 1941, in New Mexico to Jose and Matilda Garcia. Viola was lovingly raised with the Cisneros family in El Prado, New Mexico.
She is preceded in death by her parents Jose and Matilda Garcia, brother Leo Sarafin Garcia, daughters Pauline Gonzales and Darlene Cruz, and great-grandsons Antonio Romero and Kristopher Romero. She is survived by her husband Max Alires; brother Sam Garcia (MJ); sons Al Gonzales, Paul Gonzales (Betty), Tony Gonzales; daughters Corrine Inger (Charles), Susan Gonzales (Michael); 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Our family has memories of her listening to New Mexico Spanish music Saturday morning while she cleaned the house, and enjoying camping and dancing. We also remember her preparing the entire meal for the holiday gatherings. She was a devoted Catholic, dedicating 7 a.m. daily to praying the rosary. After which she and Max would sit on the porch drinking their coffee, while she laughed at his silly jokes. Although she could no longer prepare the entire meal, she never showed up to a family event without her delicious green chili. She loved being with family and friends. She will be truly missed.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Ann Catholic Church June 1, 2022, followed by committal at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
We would like to thank St Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado, for the love and compassion they showed our mother and our family, a special thanks to Father Brian, for all his spiritual guidance and assistance in bringing our mother home to Utah. Thank you to all our family and friends for sharing your love and prayers through this difficult journey.
