OREM — William (Bill) Henry Phillips passed away March 24, 2011, at home surrounded by his family. He was 87. Phillips was born Sept. 9, 1927 in Spring Canyon, Utah, son of James H. Phillips and Isabella McCrae Phillips. He graduated from South High School, Salt Lake City, in 1945 and served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947 in the Philippines and Korea. In 1952, he earned a degree in civil engineering from the University of Utah, where he was a member of Theta Tau. In 1953, Phillips married the love of his life, Gloria Busico, and they moved to Orem in 1959. He worked for U.S. Steel Corp. at the Geneva plant for 26 years. He was a member of the Elks, Knights of Columbus, and the Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He served his community by giving his energy and professional talents to St. Francis Church, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of Utah, and the Orem City Planning Commission. Phillips is survived by his wife, Gloria; children Sue (Jerald) Woodbury of Beaverton, Ore.; Peggy (Alan) Foster of Shasta, Cali.; Mark (Deb) Phillips of Lehi, Utah; Kathy (Ernie) Sandoval of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Matthew (Lisa) Phillips of Portland, Ore.; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert; and grandson, Nicholas Phillips.
