William Michael Snarr

SALT LAKE CITY — William "Bill" Michael Snarr, 70, died Sept. 26.

Snarr was born March 1, 1938, to Hazen Oscar and Marguerite Hyland Snarr. He married Patsy Jean Allam Aug. 1, 1959 in Saint Ann Church. He graduated from Judge Memorial Catholic High School where he lettered in four sports and won the coveted Moran Award for best football player. He attended the University of Utah upon earning a journalism scholarship and was sports editor of the Utah Daily Chronicle. He was elected to the "Quill and Scroll" honor society. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve as a tank commander and was named "Soldier of the Month" three times while serving on active duty at Fort Ord, Calif. He worked for E-Systems Montek Division for more than 30 years where he held the positions of director of administrative and technical services, and director of public relations. He later worked for Raytheon Aircraft in the same positions and subsequently for Moog Aircraft. He previously worked for Hercules and Edo Western Corporation.

He was selected as the Utah State Air Force association "Man of the Year." He served as campaign coordinator of United Way for numerous years and was a former U.S. Savings Bond public relations chairman for the State of Utah. He was chairman of youth activities and coach for Saint Vincent de Paul Parish for 18 years, winning numerous Catholic Youth Organization championships in basketball and baseball. He was a member of parish council for several years and was president of the Catholic boys baseball association, and a member of the board of director for Brighton football league.

He is survived by his five children and their spouses; his sister, Patty (Jack) Higham.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Committal was in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
