SALT LAKE CITY — William Rey Louie is a member of the class of 2006 graduating from the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado. He is the son of William Gordon Louie and Julie Knight of St. Ambrose Parish, and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. William W. Louie of St. Ann Parish.
Louie was a graduate of Olympus High School, and received his appointment to the Air Force Academy from Utah Senators Orrin Hatch and Robert Bennett. He will receive a degree of Bachelor of Science in aeronautical engineering and a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force May 31. He will report for navigator flight training at Pensacola, Fla., starting a five year commitment to the Air Force.
At the academy, Louie was an instructor in soaring, and participated with the parachute team. He had hoped to be a fighter pilot, but he is not currently "pilot qualified" because of his eyesight. However, as a navigator, he still will have an opportunity to fly as a member of a combat team.
