As we enter into the beautiful season of Lent, we usually stop and consider what to do for Lent – or, more to the point, what to "give up" for Lent. We Catholics carry deep within us a long tradition of performing acts of penance during our 40 days of preparing for Easter. Such sacrifices are rooted in our understanding of mortification, namely, dying to self so that Christ can rise within us at Easter.

Los Católicos llevamos muy adentro de nosotros una larga tradición en hacer actos penitenciales durante los cuarenta días para prepararnos para la Pascua. Dichos sacrificios provienen de nuestro entendimiento sobre la modificación, es decir, morir uno mismo para que Cristo resucite dentro de nosotros en la Pascua. SALT LAKE CITY — The faithful gathered at Saint Patrick Parish in Salt Lake City on Feb. 11 for World Day for the Sick. The Celebration of the Eucharist with conferral of Anointing of the Sick was offered to the sick and elderly. Father Lourduraj Gally Gregory, pastor, mentioned that Feb. 11 also is the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes, who is Fr. Gally’s patron saint; his pastor in India named him at the request of his parents.

SALT LAKE CITY — Join the sea of green and start your St. Patrick’s Day celebration at the Leprechaun Lope – the only race with real leprechauns. This 10K and 5K race and 2-mile fun run has been a Salt Lake tradition for 25 years. Proceeds benefit Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School. A record number of people are expected this year to don their green gear and craziest Leprechaun garb to run (or walk) in the event.
