From left, Moala KiniKini and Amelia Moeaki, both widows, display the feast awaiting those attending the annual Kalapu Vaivai dinner to celebrate senior citizens on Sept. 10. Among those who attended were CHRISTUS St. Joseph Villa residents Mary Taylor, Yvonne Hunger and Paul Guertin, along with Deacon Otto Johansson. Kalapu Vaivai is an interfaith Tongan group whose name means senior citizen’s club. Each month the group collects donations and gives it to a needy family. The group was founded by Fine Langi; Kepa Maumau is the group’s president.

HOLLADAY — From competition to contemplation, the Carmelite Fair had a little something for everyone this year.
The inaugural Run for the Nuns 5K race kicked off at 9 a.m. Sunday, giving those who walked the course plenty of time to complete it before the fair itself started at 11 a.m. The event was in memory of Sister Mary Joseph, the Carmel of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Monastery extern sister who died in July.
