Lydia passed away peacefully Saturday morning February 15, 2014 at Legacy House in South Jordan, Utah. Lydia was 98 years young. She was born to Guiseppe and Maria Bruno, immigrants from Domanico, Italy, on March 3, 1915 in Helper, Utah. She was the youngest of four children.
She married the love of her life, Eugene Gibson, and moved to Moab, Utah. Lydia enjoyed hard work all her life; before marrying Gene she worked in a pharmacy in Helper. After moving to Moab, she worked in a jewelry store for 25 years. They lived in Moab until her husband's retirement. They returned to Helper and built a home so she could be near her father, and brother, John (Giovanni). Gene died soon after they moved back to Helper.
Several years later, Lydia was again lucky in love and married Dan James. After many happy years Dan passed. Lydia moved to Salt Lake City to be close to her niece Marie Bruno Nelson, with whom she shared a very special and close relationship.
Lydia had strength of character and a great love of life. She was a phenomenal woman, the kindest and most warm-hearted person one could meet. She loved to read, cook, play cards, and tell stories about the past. Mostly she liked spending time with her family. Family was everything to her and she especially loved the kids. She never tired of playing cards or dominoes. All who met Lydia instantly fell in love with her. She was an inspiration to all that knew her.
Lydia is survived by her niece and two nephews, several great and great great-nieces and nephews, not to mention all the other cousins and relatives that she loved so dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Guyatano (Guy), Giovanni (John), and Orlando (Landi); and her husbands Gene Gibson, and Dan James.
All services will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 300 East 11800 South, Draper, Utah. The viewing will begin at 6:00 PM and the rosary will begin at 7:00 PM on Friday the 21st of February. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday February 22 at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Helper, Utah.
