Amelia Samson Hernandez

OGDEN — Amelia Samson Hernandez, 83, passed away Nov. 24, 2014. 
Hernandez was born to Maria Suarez and Juan Samson on Dec. 31, 1930, in San Juan, Rizal, Philippines. She married Diosdado Calderon Hernandez on Dec. 31, 1955. 
She had numerous educational degrees, including a Bachelor of Science from Philippine Normal College, a Master of Arts in Special Education from Utah State University, a Master of Arts in Education from Weber State University, and a doctoral degree in education from California Coast University. She worked as a teacher at Santa Lucia Elementary School in the Philippines and at various schools in the Weber County School District, including Canyon High School. She worked with Philippines Humanitarian and Ateneo de Manila University’s KM Foundation.
Hernandez was a member of Saint James the Just Catholic Church, where she proudly served as a layperson for many years. She was also honored to be a Third Order member of the Carmelite Order and was a familiar presence at the Monastery of the Holy Trinity in Huntsville, Utah.
Hernandez is survived by her husband; children Maria Honor (Paul) Arnstein, Imelda (Andrew) Armstrong, Iraida (James) Pisano, Alejandro (Mary Geraldine) Hernandez, Florian (Brian Parcell) Hernandez, Florinda (Brian) Zeuthen, Ronald (Michael Rycheck) Hernandez; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. 
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. James the Just Catholic Church.
