SALT LAKE CITY — Eight holy relics will be available for veneration in Utah from May 12 to May 22 as the Apostolate for Holy Relics’ “Call from the Crucified Heart” program is presented at nine parishes.

The program includes Gospel readings, mediations and music that are “intended to guide participants on a unique meditative walk to Calvary with Jesus and Mary,” according to Denise Serafini, the Apostolate for Holy Relics’ senior event coordinator.

The Utah Knights of Columbus is sponsoring the tour and will have a 4th-degree honor guard at each parish during the program, just as they did last year, when the Apostolate for Holy Relics presented its “Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy” program at four local churches.

“When you go to one of these events, as I did last year, you can see how it changes people’s lives – some people are really deeply moved by seeing these objects and by venerating them. It helps you believe,” said Knights of Columbus Utah State Deputy Andy Airriess. “It is truly a moving experience.”

While the eight relics in the program will be the same as those that were brought last year, the readings, meditations and music will be different, Serafini said. “This year’s version takes you to an even deeper level on the walk with Jesus during his Passion. The 2017 program creates a special opportunity that is designed to touch your heart in highlighting Christ’s message from various scenes during his Passion that helps you connect with the Love of the Father through his Son. As a tribute to Our Lady of Sorrows, and in honor of the 100th anniversary of Our Lady’s apparitions at Fatima, the program also highlights a perspective on Mary as she accompanied Jesus on the path to Calvary.”

The nine parishes that will host the program are scattered throughout the state so that “no matter where you are in the state of Utah, you’re not going to be that far from these relics,” Airriess said. “You don’t have to go to Rome, you don’t have to go to the Holy Land, you don’t have to go to some large basilica someplace with such a collection. This is coming to you.”

The one-hour program at each parish will end with an opportunity for personal veneration of the relics. For information about the Apostolate for Holy Relics, visit www.relictour.org.
