Archbishop Wester leaves legacy of social justice + Enlarge

Utah will miss Bishop Wester’s compassionate and generous spirit, but will continue to benefit from his legacy of social justice and love for all people. He will be greatly missed and always thought of in high regard.
I know that as our community continues to develop, we will use the example of Bishop Wester – looking through a compassionate lens at those whom our decisions effect. Bishop Wester put his faith into action, making meaningful and long-lasting contributions to our community, and I know he will do the same for Santa Fe.
During the past eight years that Bishop Wester has served as Bishop of Salt Lake City, I’ve come to know and appreciate his strong commitment to human rights and the dignity and worth of all members of this community. I particularly admire his leadership in the cause of immigration reform. I had the good fortune of working closely with him on the principles that came to be known as the Utah Compact. Bishop Wester was a powerful and persuasive voice for its principles regarding strong families, a humane approach to immigrants in our state, and the value of their contribution to our economy and to our diversity.
